Dear Clubs,

Tonight’s AGM had full/100% Club representation. (Only one Club forgot to sign the register but we believe they had a representative present).

This excellent attendance is very much appreciated by the MC, thank you.

If your Club has any contribution to make in the future regarding any aspect of tennis in the Hills, the HTA MC will welcome your contact or you can email me direct at president@hta.asn.au

Many thanks,

Myles Pope

Apr 272015

Nominate2

The HTA is as strong as its many member Clubs and as strong as it’s Community.

By nominating you can have a greater say in how tennis is administered in the Hills, meet some new people, have fun, make a contribution and give back to the game.

The HTA is willing to consider applications at any time of year from Club players, administrators and other suitably interested parties who would like assist the HTA.

The HTA has three main Committees with numerous positions, several co-ordinator roles and many other ways that you might be able to assist that fit with your own skills and interests:

1. Management Committee – overviews the Association, it processes, finances, rules etc

2. Junior Activities Committee – creates all the tennis opportunities in the Hills for our children eg Saturday competition, Orange Ball, Green Ball, Tournaments and much more

3. Senior Activities Committee – runs senior tennis to ensure we adults have a fun, competitive and social time playing our great game.

In addition, there are many valuable co-ordinator roles that need people also.

If you know someone who is equally as handsome and attractive as the current Committee members, has a sense of humour, can usually work well with others (or at least two of these qualities) and has the energy and a little spare time to make a difference at the HTA, please ‘dob them in’ and nominate them now.

Self nomination is most welcome too.

Currently the HTA has vacancies for two people on the Management Committee, two people on the Senior Activities Committee and a Secretary for the Junior Activities Committee and other roles.

The Nomination Form can be completed online on the HTA website HERE

Many thanks

News  Comments Off on HTA AGM **REMINDER**, Positions Vacant And Other Important Information. Compulsory AGM Is Next Mon, Hahndorf Football Club, 27th April. 7:30 sharp.

This is a courtesy reminder to all HTA affiliated Clubs of their responsibility to attend the upcoming AGM held at Hahndorf Football Club next Monday on 27th April 2015 at 7:15 for 7.30pm sharp.

The HTA has three main Committees and various Co-ordinator roles, we meet once a month or so, catch up for a coffee and a chat and administer the running of the Association. This is a fun team effort and whatever your experience or skills we are always looking for and welcoming anyone with energy and a desire to help their community by furthering the cause of tennis in the Hills. If you have served the HTA in the past, we would love to have you contribute again and equally if you are new to the HTA or have younger players at your Club who might not yet see themselves as ‘administrators’, why not show a vote of confidence in them and nominate them for HTA duties. If you know someone who would be well suited, please nominate them. Everyone is welcome. We have several vacancies currently:

1. Jo Casey from the Senior Activities Committee would love a couple of extra people to help run seniors next season. Please email your interest or nomination to senior.activities@hta.asn.au

2.. Ian Barry from the Junior Activities Committee is looking for a JAC Secretary (Thanks to outgoing JAC Secretary – Dan). Please email your interest or nomination to junior.activities@hta.asn.au

3.. The Management Committee is looking for two people. One person to provide general assistance to the MC with a view to possibly filling the soon to be vacant Vice President role and a second person, someone who might be interested in taking on the time consuming but very rewarding job of Recording Secretary. Our current Recording Secretary has come to the end of her contract and so expressions of interest are sought from all interested parties. The Recording Secretary job may be either an honorary role (as with other Committee positions) or a contract role as it has been in the past. Please email your interest to: president@hta.asn.au.

Important Reminder Information About Next Monday’s AGM ** PLEASE READ**

  • All Clubs are required please to send two representatives, ideally one senior coordinator and one from juniors
  • Only one vote per Club
  • If your Club is only able to send one representative, that will be acceptable provided that an apology is recorded with the HTA secretary prior to the AGM
  • We have approximately twenty affiliated Clubs, quorum is 75% or fifteen Clubs. In the event that the AGM does not achieve a quorum, the Constitution requires that we re-convene a week later. Reconvening can be frustrating for all concerned. If your Club fails to send a delegate resulting in an inquorate meeting this will require the whole Association to reschedule to the following week and  to avoid wasting a lot of people’s time and as a courtesy to all other Clubs and the HTA Committtee, we respectfully request that ALL Clubs send at least one delegate to next Monday’s AGM. Many thanks.
  • Several Clubs failed to send a representative to the recent SGM. The HTA at it’s discretion waived all fines for these Clubs (Bridgewater, Harrogate, IBCG, John Wesley, Nairne, Verdun and Woodside) provided that these Clubs attend the coming AGM.
  • The HTA apologises for having to levy penalties however because of the administrative inconvenience to all other attendees including the need to possibly reschedule the AGM, re-hire the Hall etc, please be very clear that any Club failing to attend this AGM will be fined as per the provisions of the Constitution.

Many thanks, I look forward to meeting with you again next Monday night.

Kind regards,

Myles Pope

HTA Vice President

FAST4 Tennis

FAST4

Increasingly, FAST4 tennis is being promoted in the media as a ‘quick way’ to play tennis.

In short, it is standard tennis but played to ‘first to four’ games, tie break at 3 all, lets are played and a ‘power point’ at deuce.

It is early stages for this format of tennis and if you are trying to decide whether FAST4 has a role at your Club and would like to attend a Tennis SA workshop tomorrow, then please RSVP directly to Ty Allen at Tennis SA.

The catch is that this is a ‘last minute’ opportunity – the workshop is tomorrow (Wed) at either 1pm or 6:30pm. Details HERE.

Senior Grand Finals 2014/15

News  Comments Off on Senior Grand Finals 2014/15
Apr 062015

And what a Grand Final it was!!

Having same-format Grand Finals at the one venue this season meant more people present on the day and loads more excitement, suspense and celebration for teams involved. Mount Barker and Littlehampton clubs are to be commended on the fantastic job they did of hosting the Grand Finals – well catered, courts were sparkling and everything ran really smoothly – thanks to those clubs!

The HTA is an outstanding Association. The conduct of players and spectators during this year’s Senior Grand Finals is a testament to this and it is great to be a part of this wonderful community of tennis-loving people. Examples of true sportsmanship this year reinforced this. A stand-out example of this was where 2 trad teams had drawn at the end of the day. Because one player had left the venue (which ordinarily would have meant a forfeit in one of the doubles tiebreaks to be replayed and hence the losing of the match), the opposition coordinator chose to give this player the chance to return to play it out. He did return, and on this basis his team managed to win the Premiership by 1 point! (Yes that’s right – 1 point!)

Another team chose not to pursue the “late player” rule, which would have given them a draw in their match along with the opportunity to replay the doubles with a shot at gaining the Premiership. In the team’s words, they “didn’t want to win it that way” – very noble indeed!

Div 1 Men Premiers – Summertown

Sam Page, Michael Sandford, Daniel Grant, Sam Foreman, Dan Anderson

In an absolute nail-biting finish, after a marathon day, the Summertown boys managed to overcome season-long top-spot holders, Stirling Blue. Final scores: Summertown 3-7-70 def Stirling Blue 3-7-67. The atmosphere and excitement in that last singles match was incredible!

Div 1 Men Runners-up – Stirling Blue

Div 1 Men Runners-up comp

Rob Suter, Matt Major, Ian Campbell, Neil Sandercock Absent: Brad Wakefield, Adam Newman.

Div 1 Women Premiers – Hahndorf

Emily Nairn, Jessica Klatt, Hayley Edwards, Lija Pfeiler, Rebecca Smith

Emily Nairn, Jessica Klatt, Hayley Edwards, Lija Pfeiler, Rebecca Smith

Hahndorf Div 1 Women enjoyed a very dominant position all season, but were taken to the wire by a strong Stirling side. Hahndorf managed to come out victorious – 3-5-58 to 3-4-51. Outstanding Hahndorf Number 1 player, Hayley Edwards, had statistics of 100% singles and 92.3% doubles – losing only 1 rubber for the entire season! Great stuff Hayley!

Div 1 Women Runners-up – Stirling

Div 1 Women Runners-up

Louise Stranks, Jen Robinson, Niamh Grant, Clare Vorel

Div 1 Doubles Premiers – Uraidla

1 doubles premiers

Dene Willsmore, Chris Badenoch, Anne Hunter, Sara Manser, Deb O’Brien, Kathryn Bothe, David Gore, Heather Provan, Steve Thomas, Shane Virgo, Bill Filsell

Uraidla were keen to seek revenge from last year’s 2-game loss to long time rivals, Summertown. Their determination saw them come out on top 10-78 to 6-72. There were some very excited players at Mt Barker at the end of the day!

Div 2 Doubles Premiers -Aldgate

Div 2 Doubles Premiers

Peter Oswald, Corey Eyers, Kirsty Feijen, Bonnie Farries (obscured), Justin Nugent (rear),Tessa Longstaff, Craig McDonald, Jo Dennis, Greg Sparrow, Judy Baird

Meanwhile, in the Division 2 Doubles Grand Final, Aldgate claimed victory after quite a tussle with last season’s Premiers Echunga. Final scores for the day were Aldgate 9-78 to Echunga’s 7-71.

Div 2 Men premiers – Upper Sturt

Div 2 Men Premiers

Simon Mcrae, David Box, David Sandell, Darren Siwes Absent: Nick Seal

Upper Sturt came from a slow early-season start, but finished strong later in the season to take out the Div 2 Men’s Premiership, defeating a keen Stirling side 4-6-49 to 2-3-50 – notice the games results in that match!

Div 2 Women Premiers – Lobethal

Div 2 Women Premiers comp

Alison Green, Karin Barry, Di Farrell, Kelly Golding, Kristen Beltrame

After winning the Div 3 Premiership last season, 4 of these girls invited Alison Green to help them take on Div 2. They were certainly successful in that venture – dominating the division for the duration of the season. Lobethal defeated a determined, yet unsuccessful Littlehampton side 6-8-49 to 0-0-19. There’s no question about where these girls are headed next!

Div 3 Doubles Premiers – Verdun

Back: Jeremy Black, Helen Bach, Simon Ellis, Ann Malone, Jolonda Hazebroek, Helen Kramm Front: Peter Ellis, Alice Dolling, Loki Reef-McNicol

Back: Jeremy Black, Helen Bach, Simon Ellis, Ann Malone, Jolonda Hazebroek, Helen Kramm
Front: Peter Ellis, Alice Dolling, Loki Reef-McNicol

Verdun and Hahndorf had been tussling with fellow Club Ironbank Cherry Gardens for top spot all season. This was always going to be a well-contested final. The Hahndorf team were playing in honour of their former team-mate, friend and now sadly passed, Kate Tulk. Final scores saw Verdun come out victorious 11-75 to Hahndorf’s 5-51. Regardless of the loss, Kate would be very proud of her Hahndorf team.

Div 3 Men Premiers – Aldgate

Div 3 Men premiers comp

Stephen Pech, Steve Holmes, Paul May, Jason Whitwell

Aldgate proved too strong for the Littlehampton side, taking out the title 4-6-47 to 2-3-37.

Div 4 Men Premiers – Stirling

div 4 men premiers

Glen Michalski, Will Fryer, Josh Baker, Stefan Mundy

And finally – the edge of the seat final that blew everyone away! Stirling drew with Onkaparinga in the Div 4 Men’s match with both teams scoring 3-4-41. When the doubles were replayed, Onkaparinga’s top doubles won 7-5, while Stirling’s bottom doubles won 7-4 – giving Stirling the match by just 1 point! It just doesn’t get any closer than that.

Congratulations to all HTA teams – those that made the Grand Finals and those that came out every week during the season and gave it their best shot, but more importantly – ENJOYED THEMSELVES! Here’s to another great season, and hopefully you’ll all be back to do it all again next season!
