Tennis SA have been doing a great job in keeping Clubs and Associations up to date with the ever-changing Covid situation. The latest information is below, but for the most accurate and up to date information, visit the Tennis SA website and check out their Latest News section.

Competitions and organised matches
All organised competitions and matches have been put on hold until further notice.

Tennis Coaching
At this stage tennis coaching is not permitted under the current Direction. TSA are hopeful that there will be an update in the coming days.

Casual Tennis
Tennis courts can be open for a casual hit of tennis, but not organised competitions or matches.

The Direction for Public Activities is available here. If in doubt, please err on the side of caution for the safety of our community. For further advice, please contact the COVID Information Line on 1800 253 787.

If you are a Club requiring further support from individual Tennis SA departments, please email tennissacomms@tennis.com.au and they will be very happy to assist.

The HTA will advise when we can recommence our regular competitions, once we get the green light from SAPOL/SA Health.

All the best everyone, and look out for each other.

Jo Casey, HTA President

All tennis cancelled until further notice

To our wonderful HTA family

You would no doubt be aware of the current covid situation in our state, and of the restrictions that come into force from midnight tonight.

As a result all HTA clubs are instructed to cease all tennis activities until further notice – this includes all formal matches, training, coaching and social tennis. We are expecting an update from Tennis SA tomorrow and we will advise if any of the above changes.

In the meantime, please continue to remain vigilant and follow government guidelines. Ensure you practice good hygiene, maintain social distancing and monitor any symptoms that could be linked to COVID-19. If you are unwell or develop symptoms (even if mild), get tested immediately and go straight home to self-isolate.

We know this is not great news for our tennis community and it is going to be tough for us all. Hopefully if we are vigilant and diligent now, this situation will pass quickly and we can get back to playing the sport that we love.

Stay safe and support each other in these challenging times.

Jo Casey, HTA President

Tennis Seniors SA – Friday night open court sessions

Our good friends down at Tennis Seniors SA have started a new program on Friday nights 5.30-7.30.

For a tiny $5, you can turn up and have a hit with some new friends. The synthetic surface is really fun to play on – not exactly grass, but not hard court either. The emphasis is on the social side, and those of us who played in the October carnival can tell you that they are a very warm, friendly, and cheeky bunch of men and women who love their tennis, just like we do.

If you work in or near the city, this would be the perfect way to finish your week. The 18 courts are tucked away on Greenhill Road and there’s plenty of parking available. If you’re up the Hill why not head down for a drink and hit in a very relaxed atmosphere.

For more info, contact Max Foran – acftennis@gmail.com or head to this page – https://play.tennis.com.au/TennisSeniorsSA/Tennis/OpenCourt

(note – the age requirement is a guide only and players under 25 can attend)

Lower Murray Grass Senior Championships – Sunday Nov 22 and 29

One of the great things to come out of this year is that Tennis Assocs in SA are keen to get more inter-association events (and rivalry!) happening.

In the past this tournament has been a closed tournament to Murray Bridge Associations only, but in the interests of building friendly inter-Association rivalry and relationships, they have opened it up to Hills and Great Southern Tennis Associations this year. We have not had a HTA Senior Tournament for many years now, so this is an opportunity to get out there, have some fun and show off your mad skills!

The tournament will be run over 2 Sundays (22 and 29 Nov), on grass, with various events on offer –

  • Men’s singles – A grade, B grade and veterans
  • Men’s Doubles – Championship, handicap and 40+ (combined age of 100+)
  • Women’s singles – Championship and veterans
  • Women’s Doubles – Championship, handicap and 40+ (combined age of 90+)
  • Mixed Doubles – Championship, handicap and 40+ (combined age of 95+)

Play will run from approx. 9.00 am to 5.00pm. The cost to play is an amazing $20 for up to 3 events played per player!!

The weather is steadily improving, so why not grab a buddy, and sign up for what looks like a fabulous event? Entry form is attached to this post – further details there.

Get involved!!
